Somewhere in the last 5 days we decided to make for the coast, and we're almost there. We've spent the last 5 days making our way through the interior of BC, staying in campgrounds, RV parks, seedy motels, and a B&B with a caboose!
I'm having some trouble getting the photos to upload from the wi-fi signal I'm hacked into from this seedy Squamish motel, so bear with me. I might have to add some photos later.
After the wedding we stayed at 2 o'clock creek for a day with the Lawson crew, where Ty was ceremonially inducted into the family by dunking his head in the creek.
When we left 2 o'clock creek, we managed to make it to Golden, BC. We found an awesome B&B there where we could rent "The Caboose". It was an actual old caboose car, converted into a suite with a kitchenette and bathroom. We watched a massive thunderstorm from the lookout seats at the top. A lightning bolt hit less than a block from us and knocked the power out. Kelsey saw the bolt. The hosts there were great, and the breakfast was 1st class.
The next day was an adventure! We headed west again and stopped at Rogers Pass for lunch and a hike on Connaught Creek, which was beautiful, even if we did have the feeling that we we'd walk into a grizzly bear den at any moment. We then continued on to an old forest boardwalk, and then to memorable "Skunk Cabbage Boardwalk". Mmmmm! The walk was swampy and not impressive. At the end of it, Ty locked the keys to the car in the trunk. AMA TO THE RESCUE! With the help of a kind man from Edmonton and his cell phone, we were rolling again in an hour. We camped at an RV park in Revelstoke, where we uploaded the last post.
Day 3: Kelsey Day
We went to the disappointing Railway History museum in Revelstoke to start with. Kelsey thought she could have made a better museum herself. After this we came upon the Enchanted Forest on Hwy 1. It's a fairytale paradise.
Hiking from the attraction, we found a beautiful clear river for Ty to swim in.
Later we continued on to Armstrong, BC, obviously to take Kelsey's picture by the "Welcome To Armstrong" sign.
That night we camped at the Riverside RV park for $14 and went to a drive-in movie! To top this amazing day off, we were surprised to see Kelsey's good ol' uncle Rick and family pull into the campground. He pulled up to our tent site in his truck/trailer and says "You can run, but you can't hide!" Apparently, he's right.
Day 4: The Drive
From Enderby to Pemberton, along the Caribou Trail that is Hwy 99. When they say "Scenic Route" they mean it. Crawling along cliff walls and switchbacks at 30 km/h, the trip took much longer than expected. The Fraser Valley was incredible. We prefer to call it a Canyon, or even a Massive Chasm. We loved the drive and scenery, but were happy to finally settle our nerves and set up camp. It's worth mentioning that Ty longed for his motorbike the whole way down this stretch. We camped at Nairn Falls near Pemberton in an awesome BC Parks campground for $14.
Day 5: Squamish.
We made it to Squamish today, which we don't actually like very much. Being dirty and tired, we opted for a budget motel in a seedy part of town. It's here, in the Garibaldi Budget Inn, that I'm pirating this internet signal. The room next door is permanently occupied by a dirty drunk guy. His friends just came by to visit and now they're at the bar across the street, probably to return at about 2 am. All part of a grand adventure! We at least had our badly needed showers and Ty washed some clothes in the sink. We went out for supper at a nice restaurant and came back to read, write, and rest. Tomorrow we're headed to Bowen Island, where we'll visit our friends Leah and Ray. It will be Kelsey's first time to see the West Coast!
