Australia will be our final destination before making our long trek home. We flew into Sydney on Thursday and were surprised with our first impressions of the country. First it was raining and not hot and sunny. Second, after being in Asia, we couldn't help but feel that Australia is a lot like Canada. Had we just come here straight from Edmonton it would be different, but for our eyes it seems remarkably similar. It is our ears that remind us we are still far from home, we love the aussie accent. We caught the last day of rain which ended the west coast's 5 year draught.
Sydney is a great city and we definitely enjoyed the "touristy" sights. We even had some meat pies at The Rocks.
We are very excited to be in Australia. Actually we have never been this excited about an opera house before.
No I am not singing, just trying to fit in with the rowdy aussies.
Without knowing it we were in Sydney on Anzac day, essentially Australia's Remembrance Day. However, after the ceremonies and parades are done, Australians start to party. WOW, can they party! We were lucky enough to witness all kinds of craziness and drunken debauchery. We found out from our lovely Australian friend Bec that we were actually staying in the "dodgie part" of town, hence the cheap prices and extra festivities all night long!
After our wonderfully crazy stay in Sydney we rented a car to drive up the coast. We have the car for a week and are LOVING it! Thanks Scott for lining this up for us, from CANADA!
So far we have stayed to the left hand side of the road, almost exclusively. We have adjusted quite well to left handed shifting and right handed signaling. I only turn the windshield wipers on every second turn instead of the signal light, so things are looking good.
On our travels we have found some amazing towns, scenes and places to stay. This is where we slept last night, a placed called Taree. They have a gorgeous river and excellent fish 'n chips.
Stud muffin by the sea.
Crazy lady by the ocean. Hey, pretty nice form on this jump, I should go back to China and try out for the jumping team!
We are also very excited to try out the couch surfing phenom. We are staying at a place tomorrow night and will let you know what it is like! We are also very excited about seeing friends in Brisbane and Townsville.
Basically, we are very excited!
